Ghana to combat cybercrime targeting children

Ghana is to benefit from a Commonwealth technical support to combat the growing menace of cybercrime especially targeted at children.

More than £100,00 have so far been given to support the project, through the Commonwealth Cybercrime Initiative.

Communication Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, told Joy News the agreement prioritizes mechanism to protect children from cyberspace abuse.

“Children must be protected whilst they are on the internet even much more than we protect them in their ordinary day-to-day lives because on the internet nobody is actually looking at that imaginary space.

“There are a lot of people out there who are constantly luring children into all kinds of things. Pedophiles, people exposing them to pornography people who even teach children how to commit suicide.

“We think that we will be to solicit the support of the entire citizenry to make this project work,” he appealed.
