FBI issues cyber crime alert

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a cyber crime alert for Indiana businesses who sell items for companies internationally following suspicious emails.

Robert A Jones, FBI special agent – Indianapolis Office, says companies have received an email from criminals who say they are a specific contact person of a victim company and ask the company to update bank information. The criminals then access funds from the bank accounts.

Jones says the scam started in February and businesses have lost more than $345,000.

Businesses that receive any email to update bank information should call the company directly.
