NYPD, FBI, MTA create joint cyber crime task force

The FBI, the NYPD and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) have teamed to create a Financial Cyber Crimes Task Force that will operate out of the FBI’s New York field office.

According to a press release put out by the FBI, the three agencies signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a task force that will pool and leverage multiple-agency resources to target cyber crime affecting victims in the New York area.

Characterizing New York as a hotbed of cyber threat activity by criminals from all over the world, officials said task force officers joining the FBI’s Cyber Division will be able to tap the agency’s cyber investigations curriculum, which includes a bevy of internally developed and industry-certified courses.

The task force is part of the FBI’s Next Generation Cyber Initiative, which establishes 45 units in field offices across the country.
