Head of FBI’s Milwaukee office targets cyber crime
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The newest top agent in the FBI’s Milwaukee office wants to see Wisconsin develop an advanced forensics lab to fight computer crimes.
Bob Shields is the office’s special agent in charge. He tells The Associated Press it’s not that Wisconsin has an excess of computer crimes, but he thinks the region would benefit from having more experts in the area.
He says he’d like to build on cyber-crime work he did as an agent in Chicago. There he helped create an office that investigates hacking, piracy and online terrorism, and he’d like to duplicate the model in Wisconsin.
Shields says the first step is to talk to law enforcement partners around the state to see if they agree there’s a need for enhanced cyber crime-fighting.
