Cyber Crime talks for Arusha

The Tanzania ISACA Chapter and the Norway Registers Development EastAfrica Limited have organized a conference to address cybercrime in East Africa.

According to different information posted on different websites last week, the Conference, “Cyber Defence Eastafrica 2014” with a theme “Fight Against Financial and Data Privacy Crime is scheduled to be held in Arusha from September 16-19, 2014.

While Cybercrime is now a common and serious crime to attend to, the year 2013 reports have it that in the last three years about Tsh9.8 billion ($6.10 million) got lost in Tanzania through cybercrime.

In June, 2014 Ksh2 billion ($22.8 million) it was reported to have been lost annually in Kenya through cybercrime while the Financial Crimes Survey Report-2013 said Uganda lost between one to $10 million annually in cybercrime.

Among many other ways, criminals used the Internet banking and mobile money transfer to swindle.

Some of the issues to be discussed or presented in the Arusha conference would be the current cybercrime situation, challenges, opportunities and the way forward.

The status of cyber laws in Tanzania and East Africa, computer security incidents, navigating through cyber security landscape, legal aspects of digital forensics, industrial espionage and the 20 critical security controls governance issues.

The sessions will be delivered by an international team of cyber defense experts.

The Tanzania Police Cyber Crime Unit, Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority, the Law Reform Commission of Tanzania and the Access Data Group are among participants who would share their experiences during the conference.

The aim of the Chapter is to sponsor local educational seminars and workshops, conducts regular chapter meetings, and help to further promote and elevate the visibility of the IS audit, control and security profession throughout the area.

ISACA (previously the Information Systems Audit and Control Association) is a world-wide association of IS governance professionals.

The association currently focuses on assurance, security, and governance and provides globally recognized certification in assurance, security and governance.

Norway Registers Development East Africa Ltd (NRD EA) (formerly 360° Smart Consulting Ltd.) works in the field of security for digital environment as a local branch of a Norwegian company, Norway Registers Development AS.
