5 years in prison for credit card fraud

A man accused of using credit cards and checks belonging to a woman whose purse was stolen from an Oro Valley Walmart was sentenced to five years in prison Monday.

Troy McGuire, 42, pleaded guilty in April to one count each of credit card forgery, fraudulent schemes and artifices, and attempted possession of a dangerous drug.

On Dec. 21, police responded to a report of a purse theft at the Walmart Neighborhood Market in the 7900 block of North Oracle Road and determined the suspects left in a stolen car.

The woman’s stolen credit cards and checks were used to make purchases throughout the county.

A few days later, sheriff’s deputies found the vehicle at a home in Oro Valley.

Detectives served a search warrant on the home and found the woman’s belongings and items purchased with the stolen credit cards and checks.

McGuire and a woman were arrested. The status of the case against the woman was not known.

McGuire was sentenced in Pima County Superior Court to concurrent sentences of five years in prison for fraud, 3 1/2 years for the attempted possession of a dangerous drug for sale charge and 2 1/2 years for forgery.
