Turkish army to buy 100 pct domestic technology against cybercrime

The Turkish Armed Forces is set to cooperate with the Undersecretary for Defense Industries (SSM), the country’s top defense procurement office, to buy 100 percent domestic hardware and software to fight against cybercrime.

The equipment and computer software, which will be used by the Cyber Security Command of the army, are planned to be used to detect and prevent many destructive moves, such as open microphone bugs, IP tricks, attacks to watch or destroy networks, Internet service attacks, wire spying, cryptographic attacks and spam.

The related document, undersigned by Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz has been sent to the SSM, according to sources.

The SSM will open tenders for such needs.

The cyber post equipped with such technology will be on constant alert.

Despite the army’s insistence on fully local development, the hardware and software will be used in joint-NATO drills, should the need for cooperation arise.

The Cyber Security Command was founded in 2012 upon a 2010 decision by Turkey’s National Security Council, of which, the 30-person staff will be enlarged.

Cybercrimes across the world have reached a risky level that might destroy warfare equipment, forcing armies to develop defense units.
