Law to curb cyber crime to be introduced soon: NA told

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary to Interior and Narcotics Control and Convener of the Parliamentary Task Force on MDGs, Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday told the National Assembly that a draft of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill (PECB) had been prepared by the Ministry of Information Technology.

She said that the draft of the PECB was under consideration in the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights and would soon be presented before the house.

Responding to a question, the parliamentary secretary said there had been 30 to 40 percent increase in cyber crimes since the year 2007 while grey trafficking had also risen up to 40 percent. She said the rate of cyber crimes was increasing due to the reasons, including financial gain, to harm and destroy the privacy and reputation of an individual or organisation for some grudges and unavailability of an appropriate legislation to prevent cyber crimes.

Replying to another question, Marriyum admitted that some contractual employees were hired in Nadra, however, these employees were attached to the international projects being started by Nadra.
